ABOUT US

Amplify Life provides life-changing programs with educational and therapeutic benefits that are not only designed to enhance the quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, but also provide much needed respite for caregivers. We are the only therapeutic residential year-round recreational camp organization that serves children, teens, or adults with intellectual, developmental, learning, communication, and/or emotional disability in the Northern Nevada region. We never age beneficiaries out of our programs, as this is where they connect, learn, and grow, even into their later years. Beneficiaries primarily come from northern Nevada and northern California, including rural areas from both states. Because our type of program is unique, we also accommodate people in need beyond these regions whenever possible.

Diagnoses of our beneficiaries may include but are not limited to: Autism, Down Syndrome, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity, processing disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, Cerebral Palsy, traumatic brain injuries, and various intellectual disabilities. In addition to their primary diagnosis, 61% of our beneficiaries have a secondary diagnosis such as asthma, blindness, psychiatric conditions, Muscular Dystrophy, seizure disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and speech disorders.

The majority of our campers primarily receive social security or disability payments from the government to cover their basic needs. Consequently, because of their income level, many of our campers are relegated to group homes, and neither them nor their families are able to consider the luxury of attending camp. Historically, up to 40% of our campers request and receive some level of scholarship assistance to enable them to receive our services. We also subsidize 100% of our population by absorbing a portion of the costs associated with camp to make programs affordable and financially realistic for people to attend.

Our programs impact beneficiaries on many critical levels. By integrating a progressive curriculum in a safe and supportive recreational environment ensures that everyone has inclusive leisure opportunities with friends where they can explore, create, and grow. We are creating an environment that allows participants to express themselves and become confident in sharing their ideas with others within their peer group and outside of it. Our current programming schedule includes:

  • 31 Social and Recreational Skills and Enrichment Programs.

  • 1 Week Long Overnight Residential Summer Camp.

  • 8 weeks of Prevocational and Life Skills Programs.

For many of our clients, our events and programs are the only ones they attend, and we are their only source of social interaction and social skill building activities. Our donors, partners, and incredible volunteers make this possible.
